Hi all

I purchased a Micnova Wireless shutter unit for my 40D. The remote communicates with the receiver unit attached to the remote port on the camera (half/full press results in the LED's reacting accordingly), but it is not sending anything to the camera.

I took it back to the place of purchase, they alluded to not having time to check over it, but mentioned that there should be a menu option on the 40D for remotes. I couldn't find any such mention in any documentation for either the remote setup nor the camera - it simply says to hook it up and ensure the groupings are in sync.

Secondly... I now also have a Micnova corded shutter release. Pressing down a bit focuses the camera, but it will not shoot when all the way down.

Have I missed anything here, is there an option on the 40D to 'enable' this? I'd have thought it completely unnecessary from an operation point of view.

Cheers

If the camera is in OneShot AF mode, the shutter will not release unless focus has been acquired and confirmed. Try testing the remotes again but this time, set the lens to MF (manual focus) or the camera to AIServo AF mode. If you're still having problems, it could be a bad remote socket on the camera or a bad remote plug on the remote cable (or the remote unit itself is bad).

BTW, there is nothing on the camera menu that I know of which is used to enable or disable the remote release socket on the camera.

There was no such setting needed for the 50D (and no such setting in any of the camera's menus). I plugged the Micnova receiver into the port, pressed the button on the transmitter and everything worked exactly as it should. It's been 100% reliable for me.

The first thing I'd check is that the pins in the socket on the camera are not bent/broken. If that checks out okay, I'd say you got a bad trigger.

Super - thanks guys :). Has to be the gear. Seems odd both are shonky.
