Some time ago my car was broken into and my entire camera bag was stolen along with a few misc items. Fast forward a month and I'm still having problems getting in contact with the insurance people to settle my claim, they won't answer emails, phone calls always go to VM, etc. Today, however, I discovered that my parents kept their insurance on my car (it's a hand-me-down) and their insurance is awesome ,hopefully I'll have this resolved within in week.
It kind of blows I had everything stolen from me, but on the bright side I plan on using the insurance money to upgrade from a 350D into the land of real DSLR's with a dated, but still coveted 20D.
I'm sure theres a thread about stolen stuff somewhere, but I just felt like complaining and sharing my misery, feel free to share your FML-esque stories too...

Sorry about your loss. I am interested in what are the insurance companies involved.

I'm just now rediscovering POTN after not posting much since I've had my stuff stolen and don't want to start off on a bad note by naming names and such, but they're a company based out of Florida our apartment complex recommends, they're for renters insurance, not car insurance though.

Don't you have an agent you can just walk into their office?

Yes...9 hours away in Florida. It certainly isn't my ideal choice of insurance setup, but our apartment complex had us use their agency and being new to the whole renters insurance thing I just went with it.

Don't get your hopes up.
Camera gear (or just about any personal property not directly attached to the car) stolen from a car is generally not covered by auto insurance, its covered as a loss on your homeowners/renters insurance.
Either way, best of luck getting the loss covered.

That's what I'm kind of haphazardly explaining, my car is still covered under my parents homeowners insurance since I think its still in their name (never bothered to get it switched to me) and they've been extremely helpful just in the preliminary claim stuff. I'm hoping I at least get enough for a used 20D and a lens, I had almost $3000 worth of stuff in that bag =(

One reason to always make sure your gear is covered!
I dont think i would go with any insurance company without getting a decent amount of feedback on how they settle claims etc as it sounds like that company stay afloat by making it very difficult to claim.
If they were here, i would have no hesitation to report them to the Insurance Ombundsman (they oversee the insurance companies here).
