Does anyone have experience using the Sigma EF-530 with the 5D Mark II? Is it fully compatible?
I know the EF-500 does not work with the 5dM2 at all, so I am looking into this.

A new Sigma flash, Canon version, from a reputable authorized distributor, should have the updated firmware to work with the newest Canon bodies.
"Fully compatible" may not be the right term, though. Last I knew, Sigma flash units were not fuly adjustable via camera menu and do not account for the camera's crop factor when autozooming like Canon Speedlites do.
Ask the vendor specifically before you buy.

MufutauThat post refers to the EF-500 DG Super, not the 530.

Sure I know. I actually have a 500DG SUPER.
But Curtis, isn't the EF-500 DG Super older than the 530? So, I figure if the 500 can work with chip upgrade why wouldn't the newer 530 work?
Is my logic wrong?

That's basically what I'm asking - I know the 500 has a chip upgrade that makes it compatible. I'm wondering if the 530 already has this newer firmware, or will it have to go through the same upgrade to work with the 5dm2.

it depends on the serial numbers of the unit for both the 500 and 530. I just sent my ef-500 dg super back to have the firmware updated and now it works perfectly with my 500D (got it back yesterday). The have several locations in the states to mail to and they didn't even charge for postage. The unit was 2 1/2 years old. Refer to this link....

But nobody has yet definitively answered the OP's question: Is the SIgma EF-530 compatible with the 5D Mark II? The link above refers to rechipping the flash for the 50D. No mention was made there of the 5D Mark II.

I beleive he can get his answer in my message #4 link above.. where the guy said after he re-chipped his 500DG SUPER it now works with his 5DMkII, so since the 530DG is newer than 500DG it should work for him, either straight (without re-chipped) or after re-chipped.
Note: I have a 500DG SUPPER and it's now with Sigma Corp, to be re-chipped, so I have not get it back (should be here anytime now).. but then I don't have 5DMkII to test it out either.

I believe the issue is with the new electronics that came out with the 50D. The 50D, 500D and 5D Markii and use the Digic 4 processor. The link I posted only talked about the 50D but when I talked to Sigma they said they all had issues with the older firmware in the flashes.

That link you provided says nothing about the Sigma 530 DG Super working with or being compatible with the 5D Mark II. And making assumptions that it should since it's newer does not qualify as a "definitive" answer. ;)

no, it had to do with whether an older one might work. Sigma's website say that new ones will work on all Canon AF camera .... what they do not say clearly if there is firmware issues with older versions of the Flash.
