...or three check my mobile site to see if it's looking okay? I'm trying to make an abbreviated version of my site for those on mobile devices. Unfortunately all I have is an older HP PDA, so I can't test against iPhone, Blackberry or whatever other new smartphone devices there are.
I'm just looking for feedback on the size and layout of the site. Does it fit on the screen (I made all the photos 300px wide... is that ok?), does it make you scroll forever, is the text too large or small? That kind of thing.
The site is www.pixf.com, which should recognize you're on a mobile device and redirect you to mobile.pixf.com (http://mobile.pixf.com)
Thanks much,
Dave

I just tried it on my Windows Mobile 6.1 phone and it directed to the mobile version.
It looks good, just the right size, the page is centered, the photo loads quickly, and it's only about 2 page lengths to scroll down.
I attached screen shots from my phone of the 2 views while scrolling.

"Full Site" wraps to the 2nd line on my Blackberry Pearl, but only using "Full View" in Opera Mini.
When using Opera Mini in "mobile view", or the standard BlackBerry Browser it works perfectly. I get redirected to the mobile site automatically.

Testing on Android, I'm not automatically redirected. If I go to the mobile site manually it looks good. Though in the Portfolio section I would like to be able to click on the image to see the full-sized version so I can evaluate the detailed quality of those shots (as much as that's possible on a phone screen).

Thanks very much for checking, folks. Good to hear that in general the site is there and ok.
int2str, I'll have to look at my redirection code and see if Android is not being checked - maybe it's new enough that it wasn't in the list. I don't put the full size portfolio images out, even on my desktop site, but maybe I'll put some a bit larger that could be clicked.

Redirects fine on my E90. Though I think I'd prefer the images centred with the text. Having them all down the left makes the right hand side seem very bare with an 800px screen, probably much the same for those browsing on 640px screens as well.

Ah, thank you. I think I've just centered the whole site... take a look again if you don't mind. I'm not quite sure how one is supposed to handle some screens being 800px wide, and others being 320px, etc. But at least if its centered I guess it will look a bit better.

Looks good on the iPhone. My only criticism is that the text on the home page looks a bit awkward - ragged on the right side. IMHO, it would be a bit better with some more hyphenation and/or justified spacing.

I agree, text could be a bit neater, but it looks great on my iphone.

Interesting feedback about the ragged edge on the text. I suppose as text is displayed on smaller devices, that becomes more obvious and distracting. At first I thought there was no answer to this problem, but I ran into the "soft hyphen" entity ( ) that I didn't know about before. Apparently it's not supported well in browsers, but I tried it out; maybe one of you can see if it worked. I put a soft hyphen in the word "performance" on the first line of text on the home page, which should allow it to hyphenate across to the second line.
Now I don't know if that's going to screw up in other browsers... but it's kind of a neat thing :)

By the way, it doesn't appear to work in Firefox or IE, but that's not where it matters...
Thanks,
Dave

This may work for you, at least to see how it would display on an iPhone. There may be similar sites for other platforms. Try searching for "blackberry emulator" or other things along those lines.

Thanks for the link. I have seen that and have looked at the site with it. It doesn't appear to be identical to some of the snaps I've seen from iPhones, but I'm guessing it's very close.

Look good to me, though the hyphenated text could probably be worked around a bit better. :)

Thanks for the pic, James. I'm a bit surprised at the various comments suggesting hyphenation. It's not at all usual to spend time putting in hyphenation on a "regular" web page... are most mobile sites all hyphenated, or justified? Or did I just have bad luck with the various word I chose?
Thanks,
Dave

I think you may have just had a bit of bad luck with the wording. Try getting rid of the hyphenation and justifying the text to see how it looks?
