Nice series but (on my monitor) your shadows look a bit dense. Losing a lot of detail on the undersides.

cool! where did you shoot from? I'll have to see if my dad was flying either that 75 or 76! Do you recall what day those were taken exactly?

They were taken from the IKEA parking lot on Friday 9/25/09, approximately between noon-1pm. They were approaching from the south that day.

Thanks. Lens was a 70-200 F4 on a Rebel XT.

I just looked on Google maps, especially since you use a 70-200. (I have a 55-250.) Ikea's really close to the airport. While Newark isn't really an option for me, given the nearly 5 hour drive, it looks as if it's a darned nice place to photograph aircraft.
For me, National (DCA) is excellent, but handles only up to mid-size aircraft (737s, A319s, et al). It doesn't handle 747s or the monster A380. (An A380 at National would be interesting!) Dulles (IAD) access sucks, and BWI looks as if it is limited.

Although the IKEA parking lot is a great place to shoot from, there is always a security presence in the parking lot, and usually a police presence as well. If seen, they will at the very least, ask you to leave. I lucked out that day as the planes were approaching from the south. They usually approach from the north and depart to the south. I took these while sitting in my car and shooting out of the driver's side window. I wish Newark handled more 747s, but oh well. I live about 15 miles north of the airport and in the flight path to the airport. Everytime I see the rare 747 flying overhead, I always think, why couldn't I have been by the airport to see it up close and maybe grab a pic. I, as well, would like to see an A380 in person. That would be sweet!

The 380 is across the way at JFK...
I hate the fact that there's such a discrepancy about people taking photos of planes. WE ALL KNOW WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE FROM THE OUTSIDE!!!
I'm just gonna get some credentials and flash that whenever I go out then what will they say!?
Ugh, I get heated every time the topic comes up about people getting hassled for taking pics of planes, J.H.C. Like really!? What's the big deal? It's ridiculous.

HA. I got banned for a year at my local airport after asking for the statute that makes this illegal. I still haven't found one. But being you were on IKEA property, the airport cannot really do squat.

wow i've gone to that Ikea lot several times and each time I get converged on by security and once by the police.
they don't like photos of the airplanes being taken there
Teterboro gets a lot of traffic but its smaller jets and turbo props that come in. lots of security there too so becareful

Its a joke, really. What can they do? Make me delete my pictures? Arrest me and take me in, and see what happens.

I've been fortunate enough to not have been approached yet the few times I have gone to Ikea.
I pass Teterboro on my way to/from work. I have not looked around for a good place to shoot from though. Route 46 offers a good view, but you will probably stick out like a sore thumb, and the municipal building is right there as well.

I agree, there is not much they can do, but it sucks having to get hassled.
