I am looking for a really wide angle and I have narrowed it to 3. I need some help here, as I have searched the web and seen some reviews but afraid I might be either missing an alternative lens, or a common problem with one of them, I dunno. There aren't a whole lot of reviews (that I have seen) on these superwides. $600-$700 is a lot for me to spend so I want to get the most for the money.
So in order of MY perceived preference;
Tamron 11-18 f4.5-5.6 Di II LD AF ~ $560
Pro's: Lightweight, Tamron biased
Con's: smaller zoom than others
Sigma 12-24 f4.5-5.6 EX Asph DG HSM ~$570
Pro's: 122 degrees of view, more than the 103 from the tamron.
Con's: Heavy at 1 1/2 lbs comparitively
EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 USM ~$800
Pro's: Rave review's
Con's: Pricey, WAY pricey for a slight image quality difference??
Just can't decide, I think the Canon's high price puts this out of the running, unless I can be really convinced it's worth it. Basically it's the Tamron or the Sigma. I own a Tamron and happy, never had a Sigma.
Any and all imput appreciated :)

Sorry to be a n00b, let me rephrase;
How can I justify the extra $200+ for the canon?
Will I miss the extra zoom on the Tamron?
Is the Sigma the best choice in ultra wide?
lol, thanks

You also forgot the Tokina 12-24 that is $499. I've read lots of good things about that lens

Also, If you are willing to wait, Dell runs stackable coupons. About a week ago, Dell offered these coupons and people were able to get the Canon 10-22 for $586 (or something close to that).

Get the EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 USM from Dell for $560 delivered.
www.techbargains.com (http://www.techbargains.com) has the Dell coupon codes you need.

Yeah I saw they just had the 300D for $569 :shock: with those coupons.
I will have to research the Tokina, didn't really consider it. Thanks for the tip.
Now I am this --> <-- close :neutral: haha

The Sigma is the only one that can be used on a full frame dSLR or a film camera. :)

I'm willing to bet that the Sigma lens has DIAGONAL angle of view listed, and the Tamron has HORIZONTAL angle of view. You cannot compare these numbers if you don't know if it's horizontal, diagonal, or vertical.

It's more likely that they list AoV on the largest sensor they cover (1.0 crop for the Sigma, 1.5 crop for the Tamron, 1.6 crop for the Canon). Personally, I'd take the extra weight and size of the Sigma in order to get the insurance for a larger sensor camera. I'd really hate to have to go out and buy it because the 11-?? I'd got for my 20D wouldn't cover the new 1D? Mk##.
