If you look in a 550 or 420EX flash manual you will see that there are differences betwen A and B.

Maybe it means only a type A person would buy one. Less compulsive folk get point-and-shoots.

Also as Sott points out has something to do with flash and supported features.

For me it means it took A-lot out of my bank account and I end up shooting pics for A-lot of my spare time, because its just A great camera to use....lol

The short explanation is a Type A camera uses E-TTL (Evaluative Through The Lens) metering with compatible flash units while a Type B camera uses non-evaluative TTL metering.
