Hasselblad has an introduced a new innovation (their "true focus" system) that just goes to show that there is plenty of room for improvement for future AF systems. It's an interesting read:

Looks pretty simple, but that's it - simple ideas that are actually implemented and work are great ideas.
I'd imagine it takes around $10 in hardware to be able to do this, so unless HB hold a tricky patent on it, this will be the selling point for new DSLRs in a few years time.
Interestingly, it's the same sort of sensors that are used in in-lens IS systems anyway. Wonder if Canon or Nikon could get the data out of the lens and use that to implement something similar.

No way the hardware that precise would cost only $10. The yaw detector and the chip sets along would probably cost thousands of dollars to manufature.

60MP. you'd need several 32giggers. and terabytes on the comp to boot.

yup, but if you can afford one of these a few hundred for hard drives and memory cards is hardly a dent in the budget

Doubt it - I think you just need an accelerometer to measure the change the camera angle as you adjust your composition by tilting the camera - and solid state accelerometers are now so common that they are found in iPod touches. Unless you work in an environment with an ever-changing direction of the acceleration due to gravity etc (in which case I think you can turn it off) - it should work pretty reliably.
I don't think the software will be that hard to write either - but this may only work with lenses that already report distance information for E-TTL II.

A friend of mine is VP of marketing for a retail clothing store. The photographer he uses rents the Hasselblads with Phase One backs for their catalog and store display shoots. Not too many individual photographers would find it financially prudent to spend so much of their own money into quickly depreciating technology.

i have seen pro's that make $30,000 for 1 product shoot, for a big agency. those that i saw, were renting the camera for the weekend/week, fyi. not sure how much renting it costs, but probably $1000-2,000 is my guess which is a lot les than owning it.

well the guy took a lot of shots (it was for a motorola phone), but yes 1 shoot, 30 large. must be nice. he rented the H3D, and actually had help from an assistant to show him how to use it! LOL
another assistant set up the product shot, someone else did all the transfer stuff to the computer, etc.
he just showed up to click the shutter and to give a little direction. photographer...ya right...that bastard. you would be surprised at how very little a pro photographer actually does, when having someone else or another do essentially everything.

in a way the 7D features this with it's electronic viewfinder and the orientation based af points. i don't know what canon calls it though, but there has to be a thingy that makes it know how the camera is.

I am pretty sure that photographer doesn't keep the entire 30K all by himself. A big portion of it would go to his assistant's wage. And there are probably other spense too.

i'm sure that he didn't pay 2 of those assistants that well, as they were interns from school. they'd be lucky if they got $1,000 a piece...really lucky, but i doubt they even got half that. He rented a studio...yes rented one, for the weekend. In all i guarantee he pocketed at least $20 grand after expenses.
it shows you that you really need absolutely zero tools to have high end assignments/shoot professionally as you can rent absolutely everything.

Nah, my hassy is sitting there collecting dust and dirt, didn't shoot with it much nowadays, even my Canon DSLRs are just watching me typing on here and they're crying to be used, i think i will never get paid of all my gear at all, but i will keep spend all my money on gear and just live the dreams.
I really don't want to pay hundreds or thousands to hire models to use my hassy and after that i just keep the shots in my computer or showing you and i never get paid and those models laughing at me and i can't find any agency to accept me to work with them, i called and went to few agencies for commercial and fashion in my country and all photographers are Westerners and they don't look for arabs [because those foreigners didn't leave anything to us], so it is different lifestyle a bit here than you, how do you think i can't get paid with my gear even at least 40-50%?

You also have to keep in mind this is coming from someone with a D40 with only the kit lens. I have a B800, but that's about as crazy as my stuff goes.

Hot weather
High Humidity
No rains

Small country
Architecture and sturcture are not that so lovely and disappearing of historical places as the government demolish a lot of old and historical places to build new like-plastic city

yes yes it's fine. i don't know. i don't guess why beverly hills is rich...i could say that maybe a lot of celebrities and other business owners live there. i don't analyze why...we just accept, because it is the facts. every city has statistics like average salary, etc.
i wouldn't go analyzing why one would think so. just wondering since you live there. what the average salary would be. i could look it up i guess, if i knew what city, but as a whole as a country, i believe on average is more affluent than many many other countries. it's just a fact (if that's the case).
i would be hell ya i'm rich, if someone asked me and i was rich. there should be no shame in that. or the opposite.

Qatar is a lot richer by comparison.
True, I think Qatar is smaller than UAE and i heard that they are maybe the first or second in the world with the Natural Gas, also the population in Qatar is less than UAE, and government in Qatar support locals more than UAE, we were supported much more in the past but now not much anymore and the foreigners rule, i heard from our Hasselblad dealer that some Qatar people bought Hasselblad from them, i think maybe 5-6 UAE people in all UAE bought that hasselblad digital including me.
Really many UAE people has money here but to be honest, they wasted money on houses, expensive cars, marriage,.. and the end they complaint that they need more because they don't have enough money for something else, i mean if they spend on marriage no more for house, if house first then marriage is difficult, and later with children for food and school we are suffering, my only secret that i can tell why i could afford all these gear is because i am lucky enough that i live with my parent at same house so they pay for my food and house bill [electricity and water], sometimes rarely they can pay for my car fuel and sometimes when i travel they pay my phone bill, my dad bought the car for me, also each UAE citizen has a right to get a house so i had a house from government, but because the cost of building was little more so the government paid about 60-70% and my dad paid the rest, so all my salary now is just for my wife/children, phone/internet bill, food sometimes, car fuel, and ofcourse my personal things like photography and computer and travel and so.

Tareq, your gear list is impressive but if you are not using it then you might just as well have a decent bridge camera.
I believe that you need to find something to interest you photographically that may offer a different perspective or insight into your country that may appeal to prospective purchasers of your work. It would seem that you have become more obsessed with purchasing gear than getting out and taking pictures. The funny thing is to help improve 'your mojo' I am going to suggest you spend some more, although I feel that it may be prudent to sell some of your current kit, I mean to be honest, how many bodies can you use at any one time?
I suggest you buy something like an MPe 65 and an MT-24 and start to see what is in your world in a different light, that will hopefully give you a different perspective and help rekindle your passion for photography rather than for gear collecting or trying to obtain the ultimate image quality, a poor picture with no passion is not improved just by having been taken on a high end camera!

Thanks!
I heard that from many people, even i asked myself these thing.
In all cases, it is my money, people sometimes spend millions on something they really don't need it [palaces, planes, cars,....], so if i spend hundred thousands on gear without much usage will that make a difference?
I understand your points, if someone getting all that gear then he must use that for what is worthy otherwise it is wasting money and time and no point to collect.
I said many times on different forums that my reason to go with photography is personal, and i didn't think to be a photographer, and i found that i become more happy with gear than taking photos, also my situations in my area also bad and so difficult, the weather here is very bad even indoors most of the time, so that i have a thinking that i can't waste time to take photos here and there and have artworks or improving my photographic skills, also i don't want to wait decades to use only one or 2 cameras to learn and improve myself while others getting more or newer cameras and doesn't matter if they get improved or not.
For the meanwhile, i shoot sports in my area using my 1DmkIIN and 1DmkIII [300L + 70-200 f2.8IS], i shoot outdoor and some events with my 1DsIII [24-70, 24-105, 16-35L], and i use my 1DsII for work as a civil engineer because i don't want to use my 1DsIII or H3D on construction fields, 5D or 30D can be used as backup.
Anyway, i know myself and my situations, i don't like others to advise me like i am a kid or idiot, as i said it is my money, as long i wasted them and i am happy is better than i save millions and use one thing only and feel sad and disappointed forever, i am not in rush for taking or having photos, at least i get paid few times before, i won in 2 competitions, and waiting the third which i am working n submitting details and printed photos as requested, so with 3-4 years of getting into photography and had those achievement i should be happy, i don't care that i must be the top photographer now or a professional photographer, still i have my job and i am still working to get into photography business if i can then later i may change my job, but until that time i just have fun and enjoy collecting gear and shoot when i am in mood, getting that Macro lens with flash will not make me to go out more or shoot more as well, but thanks!

I live in a smaller country than yours and maybe you should try to see what you like to take photos of the most. A lot of problems in your country you mentioned in an earlier are the same here in Malta.
I take a lot of Macro as landscapes are somewhat limited an repetitive in a small country. I wish I had a better camera body but for now I am still using the 20D. Just enjoy photography and if recognition comes welcome it but always take photos to improve your technique and enjoy yourself. I wish I can make more money from photography but if I dont make money I will still try to take good photos to better myself and keep challenging myself.
Great gear list by the way and also great gallery!!!

Would you like to swap countries? Malta is way better than UAE, come here and see by yourself!

wait a second...i must have missed the problems with one country or another.
is it because it's small? it that's the case, i know people that have stayed in 1 city for their whole lives, that i'm certain is much smaller than either of your countries, and they managed to capture many interesting and awesome shots.
what exactly are the problems again?
tareq, what do you mean the air is bad? and inside too? really? i kind of thought the uae would be a great place to visit. good to know from a native. please tell. and how do they treat american tourists?

If you don't need the money, and you are happy owning the kit, why would you? Surely not because people on here say so?
I have more equipment than I really need and a lot of it is only used occasionally, but whilst I get some pleasure from owning the kit I would not get rid of it unless I was desperate for the cash.
I would love to own a digital Hassy and I suspect you feel the same but are in the enviable position of owning one. Do what your heart dictates, you only live once!

No, in fact i don't want to get rid of any of my kit, but people here and there [in my area too] asking me to sell or get rid of something because i have too much and i don't need that, ok, i bought them after long team of search and research and i love owning them, why did i bought them then first place? and i am not in situation that i must get rid of something at all, but people really making the bird to be fallen from the sky!!! :D

Dude you can own whatever you want and I see all kinds of 1DsmkIII owners that are not qualified:lol:. Own what you want and make NO APOLOGIES. If you can afford to own ROCK ON. I have a freind that has a collection of every Leica M film camera made and all are mint. He's not a great photographer. In fact he hardly shoots with any of those cameras and he has one M series that was a special edition, very limited numbers made and could only be purchased from the factory invitation only. He can afford it. His family doesn't starve becasue he bought the stuff. If it brings you pleasure and it don't hurt no one; I can't see why anyone else would care. I personally think its very COOL (being an old 500C/M owner.

And i don't care, i am not crazy or idiot to sell something just others telling me to do, hehehe.
Anyway, the problem is that i am not a good photographer yet, and here is not many into Hasselblad the digital one, rarely i can see forums about Hasselblad [i registered in few of them and nothing much to get there], Canon/Nikon/Sony dominate the world of photography with the number of users

Hot weather
High Humidity
No rains
No clouds [rarely every year we can see]
Traffic
Small country
Architecture and sturcture are not that so lovely and disappearing of historical places as the government demolish a lot of old and historical places to build new like-plastic city
What else i can say
Even with what we have already and i go to photograph it will not make my living or get paid me.
I agree it is most difficult to get creative in the middle east, sucks even worse when you see the same shots from other photogs in the area. But you just got keep trucking along and get creative, think outside of the box. One thing most people dont realize also is that you cant just take a bikini clad girl in the middle of the streets in the middle east without getting in huge trouble. I feel your pain, I have a hassy 39mp with 80/300 lense at work and sits there all day collecting dust too.

You people know about art more than us, what is a masterpiece or an art for you we may see it just nothing more than a snapshot or not good enough, believe me, many people here will look at that ultra sharp super saturated image more than a noisy grain B&W.
As i said, i think from next year i should think about photography different way, since last 4 years i didn't see i did something exceptional in photography really, i am wasting time while others are going up and improving so unbelievable.

I dont see the use of 60MP unless you're photographing from SO far away and need to see such a WIDE ammount of stuff...space photography would be the only example i could think of.

well i was wondering the same. most people shooting with 60mp, are doing advertising stuff, that mostly ends up on letter size pages anyway...so ya...i don't know what the real point is. even billboards can be done with a 6mp camera. the viewing distance is usually so far, you would not discern the lower res.

True, and because of that i buy any camera even so high resolution, because if some photographers getting 39, 50, 60,... and they don't print billboard or so large prints that often then why they bought those cameras, i have a feeling it is just an issue of affordable, they can afford those cameras to play with so why not, doesn't matter we always have to have least camera that can do the job.

i don't get this? i dont think they charge you by the dot. nor do i think they print by the dot, like it would be cheaper if you gave them a 3mp image vs. a 12 mp image.

True, they charge by the size and paper type you want whatever camera is used, so 6mp is equal to 60mp for the same printing size.
