Is PMA turning into the E3 of photography?

But they are going to CES. Which meets in January rather than February. So they can announce new products before everyone at PMA does.

Multifunction devices rule CES so why not Canon Still/Video Cameras as well?
And as David says, it trumps PMA by a couple of weeks.

I think manufacturers recognise that trade shows are expensive and offer fewer financial returns than previously. After all, if Apple can skip the big Mac convention, than Canon can certainly skip a trade show.

This article (http://www.pdngearguide.com/gearguide/content_display/news/e3ife9d9d88fcefbcdc7ac3b737fdefb944) has a little more info than the above release. My interpretation of this is that Canon does not want to be tied to the trade show circuit where people have come to expect significant announcements from them.

If their having a hard time getting returns on their products why have their prices skyrocketed?
