Hi guys,

I want to buy a battery grip for my 1000D/XS and I am not sure if I should spend $100+ on the original BG-E5 or if I should buy a similar for half of price and buy an extra battery with it.

What do you guys think about the similars grips out there? Any good one to suggest? Or should I go genuine?

Regards,

Persio

I used to own an Opteka brand grip for my XSi and I was very happy with it. It was solid and felt like the Canon one minus the branding.

Here are the links:

With batteries - http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Battery-Vertical-Shutter-Batteries/dp/B001HK4LWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1254238109&sr=8-1

Just grip - http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Battery-Vertical-Shutter-Release/dp/B001HK6AN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1254238109&sr=8-2

I have the one with batteries. I found out that at the price these generic batteries costs, they can't be beat. Buying an OEM battery for me can't be justified especially with my budget.

Do you know any site that sells Opteka and ships worldwide at a reasonable price? :)

I like the Phottix grip over the Opteka grip, the buttons and wheel have a bit more feedback to them. I have used both.

I have a brand-new one left for sale here on the forums if you are interested for $65 priority shipped!

I personally prefer to use Canon for the electrical components, but I've heard people use the Phottix and Opteka w/o any issues.

I've seen Phottix and Opteka grips on eBay before. Have you searched your local eBay? Any you buy off eBay will ship from Hong Kong probably!

I will ship mine to Brazil as well, but there will be a little extra for the shipping.

Hey everybody, tks for the feedback.. If I only had read the forum yesterday... I ordered one from Opteka directly, $69,99 plus $29,90 for International Priority... but thanks again, you guys were really helpful on my decision!

phottix battery grip for the 1000D and 450D has good reviews, i was supposed to get that one several weeks ago but when i had the extra dough i went for the oem BG-E5 instead.

just a quick note I just got my grip from Opteka, it feels ok and although the shutter and the wheel do not feel the same as the camera's ones, they are good alright. Too bad my camera now does not fit on my tiny Case Logic bag... :(

By the way, the grip looks like it has a IR sensor in the front... is this just in place for other models (they use the same body) or does it have some IR function I am not aware of?
