focus problem

Can anyone help with my anoying problem,
Every now and then when focusing with the back button (custom function 4-1) and using the center focus point, the focus point illuminates as it should, but stays lit, when I check the top lcd panel I get this [ - ] and I have to switch the camera off to get rid of it, it dosn't happen all the time, Any ideas

At a guess I would say you're inadvertantly pressing the button which allows for selecting the focus point (the button next to the * button).

Read your reply and tried it out, without a slight bend in my thumb, I do inadvertantly press the focus select button, I'll have to be more carefull in the future, thanks.
I knew I would get the answer if I just asked the question.
