Hello,

I'm new at framing, and looking for advice. I do have a Logan Mat cutter, and stock mats. The poblem I had with my first framing was the photograph rippling due to it being taped to mat. I'm sure there is a way to do this to avoid moisture problems and rippling of photgraph.

My plan is to frame a few nicely for preview, and then have additonal photographs for sale that are matted, on foam board, and in a plastic sleeve. I want the person who buys the photgraph to pick their own frame. I'm thinking about just using white mat for all photographs. Not sure if I sould use white or off-white. Also it is a good idea to have a border around photograph when it is printed at lab so to give extra room for matting? Any advice on how much matting around photograph, and does it have to be even?

I would really appreciate any advice or direction on where to find this information. Not sure best way to attach photo to mat or foam board before putting into cover sleeve.

Thanks,

How did you tape it to the matt? I only use 2 connections at the top made as a T. One piece of tape on the back of the photo with another on top taping it to the back. Never had any rippling with this method.

Yes to border around the photo, or crop it/shoot it in a way that gives you 1/4" leeway.

Make the bottom edge of the matt thicker than the top (i.e. 3.5" at bottom, 2.5" at top). It's a matter of taste here though, for me anyways. It's less work to cut them even.

I've used the 'T" hinge (conservation tape) before (two on the top) and I've also used photo corner too. I just mounted 4 (2 8x 12, 2 - 8 x10) using photo corners yesterday. I would still use the "T" with bigger prints though.

I don't use a white border around the photo though. I use "Talc White" mat from documount.com.

I center my photos.

This framed photo hangs above my computer.
The print is A4 size about 8x11 ins (20.5 x 28.5 cm)

I made the double mount and the cut-out title slot myself but now buy them in batches that works out a lot cheaper than I could buy the sheets of mount board.
No work to do, and no wastage either.

Don't know what you mean though by 'T' connections. are you talking about attaching the photo to a backing board/sheet before it is mounted.
If so then I would be interested in the various ways if doing it.

Cheers.
