If it's any guide I'm getting my 100-400 serviced by Canon UK and the cost is around 140 pounds sterling.

Fixed price service for my 300D is £144 but I supect it will be higher for yours, I'd guess £200

I recently sent in a Canon 28-70 lens for calibration (Canon Canada) and they gave me an estimate of $144 CAD. They lost the lens (or broke it) and replaced it with a brand new 16-35 L........I got lucky but I suggest you call a Canon repair centre (lab) and get an estimate.

I brought my 24-70 to Jamesburg(I live 30 minutes from there). They charged me 100.00 or 110.00 $US. for a cleaning, and adjustment. I got it back about 8 buisness days later, I had it shipped back.

so, it seem to vary from place to place. typically in the UK its horrendously expensive! same digital as in the US/canada but thanks to exchange rate works out to about twice as much

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think that the setup requires calibration. I have the exact same combination and that lens is downright awesome. It is so good that most of the images don't even require sharpening in post processing.

I do not know of one 300 2.8 that has needed calibrating. As Sheldon asks, what problems are you having? My MK2/300-2,8 combo is as good as it comes and both have never been touched.

thanks folks. canon quoted me for $168usd for the lens, and $180 for the camera w/cleaning. they are checking my 1.4x/2x free too.

took some egrets/heron shots w/the 1d2 and they came out very soft (and yes i know about the 1d2 post-process requirement). granted these were still animals shots and i had tripod and cable release (no MLU).

since i got the lens 2nd hand in a good deal, just want to make sure everything fine.
