Save Search Preferences not working for me

In a specific forum I set up a search then pressed the Go button to save search preferences, got the confirmation that it was saved.

Went out of the forum, right back in, clicked search and it's at default settings.

How do I save the preferences?

We have a custom search, so it might not work as advertised.
