The clouds have cleared tonight and the seeing was very good. The air seemed to be very still but the temperature was quite low, in the 50s or so. This is my first time shooting Jupiter and its moon with my newly bought scope, thought I would share it with you guys. ;)

With this Java applet's help - http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/javascript/jupiter I was able to identify exactly what each moon is. This is actually two frames stacked on each other. The underexposed frame was exposed for 1/125s; the overexposed frame (to capture the moons) was exposed for 2s, tracking was required. Both frames were ISO 100 to minimize noise. 10:26pm Pacific Time [GMT -8] 9.29.2009

Very nice! I'm going to have to learn how to composite two images together to get this sort of shot.

Again , very nice Perry ! Got some stripe details and just a small hint of color too . Good job ! BTW Perry other question i like to ask ppl with new scopes . What did you think about seeing Jupiter and the moon in a scope ?? Have you ever seen Jupiter in a scope ? To me my first experience was awesome cause i saw Saturn for the first time and could not believe my eyes that a small star like object was not only big but had rings around it . Wait til you see M42 the Orion neb in your scope ! It will blow you away ! Ok , sorry for the excitment :D , just wanted to know your experience with your very own scope ?

I've never seen Jupiter through a scope before prior to last night. And I was awestruck by the sheer amount of rush I get when I see the details on Jupiter's surface and of course its moons. Through the scope, Jupiter's moons looked a lot more brighter and sharp. Jupiter was like a mini sun with its little 'planets.' It was just a thrilling experience. I can't wait to see Saturn with its rings! By the way, I've seen Orion Nebula already and has tried to photograph it (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=758666), but it didn't turn out as good as I thought. But through the telescope, it looked so clear, made me feel extremely insignificant.
