Greetings,

A friend of mine told me about this Tokina lens. It is in the top of his wish list. He knew i was looking for a WA for cityscape and walkaround shots. So he recommended this lens but I have not heard or seen the results from the lens posted here before. Has anyone done any comparison between this Tokina and its Sigma/Tamron counterparts? Are you happy with the focus, contrast, colors...etc ?

I appreciate any input from you.

I had one for about 2 days, and returned it. Had serious focus issues. I cannot say that this is representative of the lens in general or just my copy. It gets a fairly good writeup for a wide-ranging zoom.

To be honest it really isn't that wide angle and would be of fairly limited use for cityscapes.
And next to your current lenses I think you will find yourself somewhat underwhelmed.

You already have a fair range covered with your current lenses and for city scapes you probably want to stay wide. Maybe consider the EF-S 17-85IS or even the SIgma 18-125 DC as alternatives.

Thanks Tom, Richard!
I love my kit lens but i was wondering if i can get an upgrade, in terms of picture quality, with the budget of US$300. Currently i cannot affort the EFS17-85IS, EFS10-22 or Tokina 12-24 ATX . However, the aforementioned Sigma 18-125 DC is not too expensive. I'll read more about it. Thanks again.

I have a copy of the Sigma 18-125mm DC, it's optical quality is every bit as good as any EF Canon a buddy and me tested it against. It's a favorite travel-general lens for me.

I would rate the only downside to this lens is the noisy AF, but it's no noisier then any other non-HSM Sigma I've seen. The noise actually sounds fairly good for quality of motor wise, it's just no where near Canon USM silent. But I still find it to be an awesome lens. It's build is very solid, lots of metal and glass in this lens.

Totally agree with Mr Chad. I am every bit satisfied with my sigma.

Thanks MrChad, Raj. I'm not too worry about the noise. I'm not using the lens to spy on somebody.:D
Raj, I remember you have a few Sigma's but i forgot which one. I have seen your night shots taken with that lens. Ok, forget about the Tokina. I am sold. ;)
