The newbie is back with yet another question! Neither the card reader in my laptop computer (which is running Windows XP with Service Pack 3) nor the card reader in my HP 7410 printer will recognize or read the 4GB card that came with my SX10 IS. They do read the card from my old Kodak EasyShare DX4530 which is a 128 MB card. The Kodak camera software was installed on my computer. The HP software is also installed. Do I have to install the Canon camera software on my computer for it to read the card?

I forgot to add that I have Photoshop Elements 7 installed and do not want to use the Canon photo processing software. I have experienced many problems with the Kodak software.

No. The new 4 GB card is what's called an "SDHC" card; the old 128 MB card is an "SD" card. The SD card standard stopped at 2 GB ; to get beyond that they introduced a new standard, the SDHC ("High Capacity"), which is backward-compatible with SD (SDHC devices will accept SD cards; but SD devices can't understand SDHC cards). What you need is a new card reader which can accept the SDHC card. Fortunately, that's just about any SD-type reader on the market these days.

Jon, thanks a million for the speedy and concise response! Hardware is a little tough to keep up with these days, especially for those of us that are a little behind the power curve anyway!
