Tomorrow my oldest grandchild is graduating from high school. I am not expecting great closeups of him in the crowd because of the limitations of 3X optical zoom AND no place for a tripod.

However, the lighting in this large a place can be tricky, and I would love some insight to settings for dimly lit situations like this.

On another note, I have been drooling over the specs for the new S2 IS that is imminent, but realized that my needs for a 12X zoom are very infrequent ... and my budget won't handle $500 right now. And I might consider a marked down S1 for long distance zooms ... that would make 4 Canon cameras I have now!!

TIA for your advice for the graduation pictures!

hi, i have the s1 and love it. to me,the s2 isn't worth 2 more pixles and i guess the price difference made up my mind. you'll like the 10x optical zoom, which is one of the reasons i bought it. i have even taken great pictures with the digital zoom at 24x. the histogram and image stabilizer is worth it's weight in gold also. i have a house pet and the swivel viewfinder comes in real handy when you want to get down to their level. hope this helps.
