No i do not add elements to my photos, the only editing done is like we used to do in the wet dark room days, burning and dodging, to bring out the tonal range, look at the two links at my first post you will see the original colour photos, thanks very much for looking.

Martin,
I also visited your website and saw your work on B&W landscapes...in most of the cases, excellent job, I was impressed.
I can see great composition skills and a very personal way of B&W conversion, there is a common feeling in all of your shots, I think you already have an "artistic character", bravo!!!
Would you share with us your secrets? Are you using PS "shadows/highlights", "curves", selective contrasting, what else?
keep shooting and thanx for sharing,
T.O.

No secret and i dont mind helping others, i use channel mixer, tick mono box, reduce red channel to zero, increase green to about 100%, close box, then use dodge and burn tools in tools pallete, i never burn or dodge midtones only shadow and highlights with opacity fom 1 to 13 and no more, once the effect is achived then might use contrast sharpening in unsharpe mask, threshold to 0 radious about 55 and amount to how you want the strength to be, then to increase contrast more slight tweak in curves, sounds complicated but its not you just manipulate the image to how you want it to look same as in wet darkroom days, thanks for your comments and looking at my gallery,
PS,
if you havnt already looked, take a peek at some neg scans in B&W at the link below, the originals from film to paper are better than these but i need a film scanner, using a flat bed at moment :-(, some of the photos have been competition winners and published in various photo mags over the years, i would like to no what you think of them
Regards
Martin

To Martin-Images,
Love to meet up with you some time as you are a local lad, i see that most of your b+w shots are of Ilkley Cow and Calf rocks and moor, what great shots they are. I would like to think i could get shots like that with G6 but i would like to shoot them in B+W to start with and use the Red, Orange etc....for B+W to get that true effect?
Did you use a polarizer for some of your shots to get the blue sky darker which would look like you've used a red filter if you were shooting in B+W?

Do you live near leeds area, if so maybe we could met up one day, in answer to your question regarding filters the only filter i use is a Grey grad, the rest is done in PS, maybe i will try a red filter someday, the filter i will buy next will be a pola.
Kind regards
Martin
PS if you want any more info on B&W email me, only to glad to help
