hi there,

well here is my situation. in july i bought a sigma 50-150 f2.8 from 47th st photo, i love the looks and the way it functions, i got some really nice shots with it, however one day when i went to use it, the AF was dead, so i sent it back to 47th st and they promptly sent me a new one, but the new one front focused so badly that i prolly needed about a +40 micro adjust setting on my 50D to compensate. so i sent it back to 47th st too... so now i have to decide what to do, i asked for a refund cause i dont really want to try a 3rd copy, but they said its been to long now, that i can either have a in store credit, or they will send me another copy of the sigma 50-150....

should i try a 3rd copy? (i really love the idea of the lens), or should i put it towards a different lens? i just wish 47th st sold something other then sigma :(, i just dont know what to do..... i could use a ultra wide, or maybe try the sigma 70-200?? but ive heard about many front focusing issues with that lens as well... dam sigma anyways! they look so good on paper, but they just have so many issues in use....

any advice will be greatly apreciated!!

Cheers!

Why exactly did you need the 50-150?

well i had it before i got the 100-300, i used to have the sigma 150-500 as well, so it was a pretty good combo, the 17-55, the 50-150, and the 150-500. but now that i have the 100-300, and sold the bigmos, i dont really need the 50-150 anymore, so not sure what to use the credit on now...

I had the 70-200 2.8 macro and it front focused right out of the box (this seems to be a common issue with this lens), sent it off to be calibrated and it came back fine. Then after about a week of use it started having communication issues with the camera, I had had enough and went back to the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS. The Canon has better low light AF and it's faster. The Siggy did put out some very nice color and bokeh but it's just not dependable IMO.

To me you answered your own question when you said "...love the idea of the lens...." Get a 3rd copy.

Get a third copy and if it doesn't perform, send it into Sigma for adjustments.

You could see if they could order you a Tokina 50-135 f/2.8. The lens seems to be a star, and you don't really lose anything since you have the 100-300.

after looking through thier store, one possibility i was looking at was selling my tamron 60mm f2.0 macro and getting a sigma 180mm f3.5 macro for an exchange. is this a sensible option? or should i just try a 3rd copy of the 50-150?

Thanks!
