So I'm Downtown Cincinnati today ready to get some street photos when a storm comes blowing in. I walk inside the local camera shop to chat with some of the guys and stay dry. I asked to try a lensbaby lens on my camera because it looked interesting. I'm fooling around with it and go to take the lens off. I can't get it off for some reason. I ask the guy behind the counter, "is this lens different, I can't seem to get it off my camera?"

he looks at me weird, smiles and presses the lens release button !

I felt like a total idiot but we all got a good laugh out of it.

Anyone else have a similar embarassing story?

LOL PJ. I know we've all been there or close to it. I just bought a lense off another forum member here and I was trying out macro and I could,nt get it out of macro or colapse the lense, I then read the manual where it states you need to bring the focus out of a certain range in order to make the changes. Lucky for me, noone was around to catch me in my glory LOL. Than of course the notorious "Oh my god my cameras broke" when you look throught the lense after you turn it on and only see black LOL That dang lense cap LOL. Don't feel stupid, your not alone, That's why they created the Darwin awards, but those winners are dead from their mistakes.

I got my Tamron 28-75 yesterday and like a super happy school girl I stuck it on my camera and bolted out the door to try it out. First shot was dark, second shot was dark, third was dark too! Uh oh I thought...now I have to return this lense :(

Heh, didn't notice exposure compensation was dialed two stops down. heh. I smacked myself and had the biggest grin on my face the whole day while I played with that lense.

Last year my daughter had a class trip and I was going on the trip with her. I was all excited because I just baught an A80. I had the camera in my coat pocket and as I jumped up onto the bus it fell out of my pocket, as I tried to catch it I ended up kicking it halfway down the isle of the bus...lol
I used it at a wedding last year and dropped it on the cement, needless to say it still works like a charm!!

I don't know how many times in the short while I've owned my DRebel that I've forgotten to reset the White Balance to AWB or whatever from a custom WB that I set the day before.

Unforunately, those results are a little more evident to even the casual observer. :p

Some of you may have read how I managed to smuggle myself in with the pro photogs to get some pro position shots of Daryl Hannah.

Well while we were waiting, not knowing when she'd come out the others were taking test shots of just the car, so I did the same. Then it got a bit boring, but while I was waiting I would periodically half press the shutter to keep the camera on and ready.

So I have the strap round my neck, camera pointing down and at the back of 2 pros in front of me (dark). So I press the shutter release and the on-camera flash pings up with it's recognisable twang-clatter! and the two pros in front turned around with quizical looks on my face.

Thought for sure that I'd been spotted and was about to be booted out with rest of the public, but I think they let me have my five minutes

We all have stupid things happening, no matter how many years of experience you have. My most stupid things happened in different areas but still...

I am a reasonably experienced scuba diver. But I managed (after several hundreds dives) to jump in the water once with my glasses on instead of my optical mask, another time with the bottle closed (=no air...) :o

I shoot IPSC matches since 1991 or so. But just today I entered an exercise with empty mags. The result of course was a FTC (Failed to Complete), zero points.:o

As everybody else, I can continue, but these are the funniest that comes to my mind (the latter being really fresh, about 3 hours) :o

Well... that's life :D

 In the beginning of my research to "go digital" about four weeks ago, I thought the "noise" that everyone talks about at a certain ISO and lens actually ment "sound" noise, as in "loud".

What makes it worse??? I actually have been working with photoshop for years (home personal stuff).

I dye my hair blonde for a reason. to match my eyebrows.

I had just bought my 20D and while waiting for the battery to charge up, I began absent-mindedly twirling the thumb wheel and some other dials on the camera just to get a feel for how they operate. Once I put the battery in I noticed I couldn't get an image to focus in my viewfinder, even though the shots looked sharp in my LCD.

So, my first post on this forum was something like, "Help, my viewfinder is all fuzzy" and some patient forum members explained to me what the diopter correction was and how I must have inadvertently changed it when I was twirling dials.

This is not me. but a lady walked in to a camera store I was just having a chat with the owner. "My pictures are all dark and fuzzy." "The flash seems to be working, but all of them are blurry....I just don't know why".

So she busted out her Rebel, and a 420EX and the lens. The store owner said, "lets take a look at this." and he takes the 420EX. Than he was bouncing up and down the flash...than said, "Um..feels a little light...did you have batteries in it?"

She immediately reply, "Oh My Gosh, I totally forgot about the batteries! Here I am sitting for hours taking pictures at the game, and I couldn't figure out why it was all blurry!" as she continues, "This is like the time when my husband couldn't scan anything on the scanner, because it was turned off". She smacks herself on the head as she finished her sentence. Meanwhile, the store owners goes over to the battery case, and grabs some batteries.

Owner replys, "Yes some times we make the dumbiest mistake."

So sometimes, people do make the dumbiest mistakes...or at least over look things.

:o Mine is one of the simplest and stupidest, when I started with photography only about a year ago, most shots where nature or scenery so there was no one around to notice any mistakes, that was just the way it was, it was not deliberate. My brother kept hassling me to take some family shots with my nephews, saying with all this gear you are buying come over and take some decent shots. When I raised the camera, my teenage nephew says to his Mam, very quietly "does he know he has the lens cap on", I was so red I think I might have melted the back of the camera. I kept the camera in place and kept shooting until my face subsided to a healthy glow

A looooooong time ago I developed my 1st roll of pan film under a red "safelight" cause that's the way they did it in the movies.
Last week I took a pic with the AF turned off, while expecting it to focus. ;-)

This just happened yesterday. I took my 300D and was ready to shoot but when i turned on the camera, nothing showed up. I turned it off and on again, still nothing. Then i remember someone here had a similar problem. So i decided to take the battery out. When I turned my camera upside down, then only i realized the battery cover was already opened for whatever reason. Dohh!

How about the guy (me:o) who could't figure out why his stops ad shutter speed would't cooperate indoors. Duh..... maybe check the ISO setting????

I'm the IT guy at work and most of the employees know I'm into photography so of course I get to do all the training videos. On this particular day I'd set up an unfamilliar video camera (with about 75 people watching) and was holding up the session because I couldn't see anything in the viewfinder. It was very embarrasing when one of the employees walked by and very publicly removed the lens cap and handed it to me with a flourish. In my defense, I never use lens caps on my personal equipment but that fact didn't get me any slack that day.

Well, I've done the lens cap thing as well as wondering why the focus isn't working (was in manual mode).

The worst case of making a fool out of oneself was a woman at a photography course I went to. We had been instructed to read through our manuals thoroughly so we knew where everything was. There were four of us there: two guys and another girl plus me. All of us had a Canon 300D, one guy had a D70. (Yes, we teased him).

Anyway, the teacher realised one woman was missing. 45mins into class she comes and looks like ****. She starts of by appologising, but also excusing herself by saying she went partying the night before and chatted to a friend until 6am. This woman was maybe in her 40's and her excuses made her sound like a teenager. lol

Turns out she has been in the teacher's introduction to digital photography class before, but had bought a new camera. She takes out the box. She hasn't even taken the camera out before the class. Turns out she hasn't charged the batteries and when the teacher tells her to turn on the camera she can't figure out how it's done. He looked at her and reminded her she was to have read the manual. She began her explainations again; "Well, you see I just got this camera the other week and it's been really busy and..."

She finally ended up tagging along another girl and sharing her Canon.

I didnt do this...but a customer at my friends camera shop DID!!!

A girl came into the camera shop to buy her first pack of b&w paper for a priting class at the college. the girl commented that the box of paper didnt "feel" like it had 100 sheets...she was used to photos being mounted. after finishing her purchase, my friend turned to answer the phone. when she finished with the phone call, she turned around and the girl (brunette, by the way) had opened the box of paper, the black wrapping and WAS COUNTING THE SHEETS OF PAPER.

we are all blonde at heart!!

Recently in the "Marletplace" forum on this site a fellow was selling a lens. It was advertised like this "FS 50mm Mark ll f/1.8 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=76921)". After considerable searching on Canon's site for the FS 50mm f/1.8, I went public with my stupidity and asked if he could post a picture of the lens as I could not find it anywhere. Shortly after another member pointed out to me that "FS" meant for sale, which in the back of my mind I knew. I took a few shots on the thread over that one, but I guess I had it coming. Anyway, I bought the EF 50mm from the fellow and all is good.

Reminds me of the time when my wife asked me why my G2 images taken with the on-camera-flash always looked so dark and I explained to her that the flash just is not as powerful as it should be ... and on-camera-flashes are mediocre compromises, at best ... Also, of course, the monitor has to be properly calibrated and so on...

She then asked why the images that SHE had taken (in green box mode) did not look so dark ... and I had to agree with her.

So when I looked again at the images I had taken in RAW, AV mode, quite sure, there was this little, inconspicuous symbol 'FEC-2 EV' that had been there for about a month since I had used the on-board flash at close distance and forgot to reset it ... :o:o:o

Best regards,
Andy

PS: Next time, you can ask me what happened to me after making CF 4-1 (AF lock on '*' button) my standard setting ... yup, you guess it, images without the proper focus :o

How many of us have had a 'No CF Card' moment? Thank goodness for the setting that stops shutter firing with no card - I found that one after half an hour spent taking pics of my daughter to find a blank LCD!

Thank goodness for the setting that stops shutter firing with no card I turned that one off so I could chimp exposures without writing a pic to the card, & then promptly forgot that the option was even there! ;-)
