I know the boats are a little out of focus but I liked it. Any comments?

I love the shot, but I thought it needed a little help. If you don't mind, here is my PS help, applying some curves and a slight USM.

I hope you like it. If you don't, please let me know, and I'll remove my version of your pic.

I like it, but would personally cut a the top and bottom off.

No this looks alot better. That was one of the probs with my shot was the boats were soft. What is curves and USM? I thought that USM was the focusing motor in my lens.

I'm very new to doing anything with the photos after ive taken them other than putting them in an album. this is my first digital camera.

USM does mean Ultra Sonic Motor (Canon), but it also means Unsharp Mask (Digital editing). Confusing for new people to digital. :)

The Curves dialog box, like the Levels dialog box, lets you adjust the entire tonal range of an image. But unlike Levels, which has only three adjustments (white point, black point, gamma), Curves lets you adjust up to 14 different points throughout an image’s tonal range (from shadows to highlights). You can also use Curves to make precise adjustments to individual color channels in an image. (from Photoshop help)

honestly, i like the first version best (original post). High contrast, sharpness and punched up colors aren't always appealing IMO. The original shot has a very calming mood to it. The blues are awesome!

Ahhh! Thanx Sydor. Now I feel a little silly about confusing USM (ultrasonic motor) with unsharp mask:oops: I will have to learn how to use the curves and usm.
