I was wondering if anyone might have a solution to this problem. My 550EX is stuck on my Canon off-shoe cord 2. I assume that the retaining pin on the flash is not retracting for some reason. I have even tried to slip a piece of a plastic card to push the contact pins down but can only get past the first 2 sets. I spoke to a Canon rep and he had no idea how to get it off. Any an all tips would be great.

Thanks
Rob

Make absolutely sure you have retracted the pin completely using the retaining screw.

Grasp the flash near the flash foot with one hand.

Grasp the cord hotshoe assembly with the other.

Wiggle, giggle, push, pull, rotate, and shake the hotshoe with moderate force.

Report your findings.

Enjoy! Lon

PS - the 'retaining screw' Lon is talking about is that big plastic wheel used to lock the flash to the shoe.

Thanks for the reply...

Still no luck... I think a spring may be broken(or something else...) preventing the pin from retracting... any other suggestions?

Remove the 4 screws that hold the foot assembly of the 550EX onto the rest of the body of the flash. Remove the 2 screws that hold the AF light in place from the inside of the foot assembly, and move it aside. You will then have access to the little locking pin, although you might have to use a small sharp knife to pry it up and out of the locking hole of the OCC-2.
