I visited a local nature preserve recently and got shots of some interesting birds and animals. This Eastern Screech Owl was very small, standing on his handler's finger (with glove, naturally).

Great photo, amazingly small little fellow, you expect owls to be much bigger.

gorgeous picture Stan

the hand with the glove blends in so well I thought that the owl was perched on a branch for a minute
great colours and shot and an unusual sight http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

lucky the gloved finger is there or we would never have guessed the size of the bird was so small
(even if you said it)
:lol:

Please don't be offended in any way, but I took your superb photo and had a play around in PS to get this effect.

(OK I admit I followed the instructions HERE (http://www.ephotozine.com/techniques/viewtechnique.cfm?recid=4))

Thanks to everyone for their nice comments. Special thanks to tupe for the sound effects, and to djonto for the PS conversion to canvas. I had also tried several special effects and like the posterized edges effect. BTW, I've added a shot of the tiny owl when his head was turned completely around. Not as sharp, but interesting nonetheless.

Bob, it appears yours is a Burrowing Owl, and we have those here in SW Florida, too. They are about the same size as this fellow, just not as colorful.

On summer nights it's part of a whole orchestra of sounds:
The screech owl,
The jar flies' electric buzz in sinous rhythm,
Whip-poor-WILL!,
crickets chirping;
and an occasional light show from the fireflies.

Tonight all I hear are maybe some crickets and peepers, nearly drowned by the hum of our HVAC unit.

Cracking image ... excellent detail around the face. Is there a tad too much sharpening around the edges I wonder?
