Greetings,
I accidently inserted my memory card backwards & the guy at the local camera repair store said I broke a pin!
Now, I am told, it will most likely cost me $250 to have this sent in and repaired. (!!??)
Now, my friends tell me that if I can get the part - they can almost surely figure out how to remove the old & 'snap' the new in place. Can anyone offer any experience with this? Thank you!

Just some thoughts on the subject. Hope it helps.
Sorry to hear that you broke a pin. I did something similar with a card reader. Something wasn't aligned right and I wound up bending and breaking a few pins. The card still works, but the reader was scraped. So now if the card doesn't slide in easily, I don't force it. I stop and check out what is wrong before continuing.
If the shop wants to charge $250, it seems a little high. That's about the price of buying a new S410 at today's street prices ($US).
I haven't replaced the compact flash connector myself, but have sent in my S400 to Canon when the LCD screen stopped working. Since it was under warranty, Canon fixed it in about two weeks.
If your camera is still under warranty, Canon might be able to help.
I'm guessing your camera is out of warranty. You might be able to match the connector with one made by Molex or some other manufacturer. Try this site: http://www.digitalcamerapartsdepot.com/canon_Parts/CM1-2084-000.asp
The connectors generally aren't that expensive, but there maybe desoldering and resoldering involved. Good luck.
