Our first winter here, a lifelong ambition achieved, and I didn't have to go further than the garden. Admittedly, it was the end of November, 10.30pm and standing out there for an hour and a half, it got a bit chilly!:D
Was it worth it? To me, YES:lol:
Both were taken with a 10D and 15mm EF (bought specially for just such an occasion). The first was a 25 sec exposure at f3.2. the second 30 sec at the same aperture.
Comments appreciated, thanks

Excellent shots - something which I've always wanted to see and have never managed as yet.

Those are great shots Trevor.

I've been lucky enough to see a few Aurora Borealis ( mainly in Canada and Norway). It can be very beautiful.

Never managed to get any pics though.

:) That kind of kit didn't exist then, Trevor.

It's over 20 years since my travels back and forward across the North Atlantic.

Getting old........grey.........fat............balding.... .....:(

Occasionally, but the further north the more intense the colours. I think.

Hope to SPOT one soon. Know what I mean Trevor. :D :D :D

I like the second image very much, but I think a black frame would help..

Offtopic: I have one question about your photo gear... How can you use a 10-22 EF-S on a 1D Mk2, cause I know it can only use EF lenses?

Read the posting again - you will find it says that both were taken with a 10D!

Much better! Time exposures don't do justice to aurorae, even though they look amazing in a still and weemanie has taken an excellent shot. It's over 25 years since I was far enough south to see them quite a few times (unfortunately the place had lousey weather). The curtains and rays can move and change very quickly indeed. A highly recommended site for real-time auroral information is www.spaceweather.com.

I know he used a 10D fot these shots, but I'm curious about 1D Mk2 with 10-22....

I don't use the 10-22. You're quite right it won't work with the 1D Mk2, but it did work with my 20D. :)
I'm selling both items on ebay.
