Hello All,
Not sure if this has been done before on this forum but I though it might be nice to see a set of Lighthouse images from around the world.
So, if you want to partake then post your images on this thread.
Here's two from my part of the world to start off with.
Both taken with the G5 last year.
Regards
David

What a lovely idea, and they are really nice images.
If it ever stops raining, I'll get out and photograph one near us, in the wild and windy north:D

Nice shots. Here's one from Boca Grande, Fl, near where I used to live. It's not my photo, just one I found and like.

This is Portland Head Light in Portland, Maine. I took this picture almost three years ago with my old Canon Powershot S30. This is the first photo I took that I was really proud of and it got me addicted to photography.

Wow. They don't make lighthouses like that anymore (sadly)! Nice shots.
Is the little structure lower down a foghorn, or another light?
I'm a lighthouse fan from way back, so look forward to seeing more of this thread.

I've never seen a lighthouse let alone had the chance to photograph one :(. I'm partial to 2nd and 5th images but really they're all great, what a brilliant subject and an excellent idea for a thread!

Wow, nice pictures! To me personally there is a very strong symbolic value in "lighthouses". Just like those paintings by american Edward Hopper, they seem so self-sacrificingly and isolated. Anyhow, as an former "Pop-eye the Sailor", i appreciate those people living those deserted places, to guide the ones at sea (even though i guess it's most mechanical nowadays). :D

Such tragedy in what looks to be an absolutely beautiful place Peter. Your image inspired me to do some research and the facts are quiet remarkable, suicides since the 1600's, now averages 20 suicides a year, in the 70's a phone box was installed on the cliff in an attempt to offer some help. I even came across a story of a man who survived the 200ft fall, and was conscious enough to have a cigarette and contemplate what he'd just experienced....
Tragic, yet like anything emotive it would be amazing to shoot

I used to know someone who worked at the nearby pub - the staff are trained to watch for 'jumpers' - people drinking alone having final drinks. Three years ago my sister and I physically restrained a woman who was about to jump off! Two weeks ago an 11 year old boy went over (complete accident), and survived with minimal injuries! Quite a place...

Good eyesight, yes, it's a foghorn.
Here's a closer view ........ with what's left of a wreck in the middle of the shot.

Good eyesight, yes, it's a foghorn.
The foghorn is rather impressive in itself. You wouldn't want it too close to your bedroom window I guess :) Mind you, they didn't worry too much about comfort back then - although from the size of the building it must have been one of the more desirable postings. The Head Keeper would turn in his grave if he saw the state of that paintwork though!
Thanks very much for posting the extra shots. Next time I place an order with Amazon I can see another lighthouse book being added to my list ...

This lighthouse is just down the street from me, about 1.5 miles away. I took some pics, but I am waiting on my wide angle to get some better shots. (Pics I took were horrible, this is the best of the bad :D )
For some others pics taken by someone else: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/larrylights/Delaware/fenwickisland.htm
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Donny1994/FenwickLighthouse.jpg
Interesting to note there is a "transpeninsular marker" in front of the lighthouse in the middle of the sidewalk. This marker was used as the starting point when Mason and Dixon mapped their famous line separating the North and the South, it seperated the lower 3 counties of Pennsylvania from Maryland. The lighthouse is on the state line, on Delaware's side.
I will post some pics when I get my wide, as this is a subject I want to photograph.
