Hello everyone.... I just joined the site... I've heard good things from a few friends, so I decided to give it a whirl. Maybe you'll see more of me. I figured I'd start things off with a wedding I shot 2 weeks ago in PA. The couple was tons of fun and the reception was a real party.

I love them all! Great photos. You might have to take some of the photos off because of the posting rules, but you can link them for people to take a look. Welcome to POTN btw! You'll love it here.

Overall you do have some nice photos. The rules do state that you can only embed up to 8 photos or attatch up to 2. Pick your favorite eight and then use a link for the others. I personally love number 17. Keep posting I would love to see more of your work :). svetlana... please explain why... I read the rules and I think I followed them.

Oh... Hmmm, I took that to mean that you could only embed up to 8 per post, which it limits you to anyway. No other photography forum that I'm a member of limits the number of photos, I wonder what the reasoning is behind that?

There are really a lot of good shots in here, but I have to say the Ring shot is AWESOME!

Thanks Jules...... glad you enjoyed it. I'm still trying to figure out the code of conduct here. My blog is in my homepage link in my profile... but here it is as well www.richlphotography.com/blog

The blog is combo deal between my wife and myself. She started a children's portrait business under her name a number of year ago so when we decided to start doing weddings a year ago, we decided to us my name... if you book us for either type of session, you get both.. its just part of the package. I explain this... so you don't think you've stumbled upon the wrong site when you first go to the blog.

Hi Rich, I believe the reasoning behind this is the fact that some people may have a bad internet connection and it may take a few minutes for the photos to load for them. It was my understanding at least. That's why lots of people would post 8 photos and then post the link to their blog, etc to view the rest. :)

I've never really understood this rule either.

If a member is hosting their images elsewhere (off POTN) and embedding, it's not tasking to POTN's site in any way.

If "viewing" members have a "slow" connection that cause a page to load "slowly", that's their own issue to deal with - not POTN's.

So, why should the rules and other members here at POTN suffer because someone's connection might be slow?

Like the OP's point - lots of other sites let you embed as many as you like. It has never been a problem I have ever heard anyone voice - here or anywhere else. I'm sure a mod will be reading this, so I hope that the guys rethink this rule. It has no bearing on POTN anyway.

Personally, I do not like clicking out of POTN constantly to see more images. Thus, I don't do it - which is a shame and great loss to those who share and post. Having to leave POTN is actually a negative IMO and keeps members from seeing and enjoying more inspiration from other members.

Just my opinion anyway.

Oh... great work and very nice images. :) I don't mean to hijack, but I thought my opinion on this may very well be shared by many more that come along.

Svetlana- Honestly... that statement makes no sense. I am pretty sure this is a photography website. We are all coming here to look at photos. If you are coming here and don't have the sort of connection that could load more than 8 photos in a reasonable amount of time, than you should get off the net and go sort out your problems.

The Image Posting Rules have been in effect for a long time. I already left a post in the other thread the OP started concerning only posting 8 in the first post and allowing members to comment on the 8. If a member wants to see more, a link to a gallery is the best way to do that. Let's move on and discuss the images posted. If you want to give a PM to a moderator, that is the best way to ask a question.

Rich, I am not a Moderator here on POTN and I didn't make up the rules, I am posting here as you are. I would have no problems ith people posting over 8 images, I would personally love that as I hate clicking on the links.

Someone could easily suggest you do the samething.

In fact flouting the rules is a very good way to be quickly removed.

However, we are don't operate like that. Instead we like to take a more open minded approach and help people.
POTN is all about photographers helping each other, sharing, and working as a comunitity.
Part of working as a comunitity is setting rules, and following them.
The moderators set the rules, it is up to you, as a member to follow them.

The 8 image limit is there for a good reason.
POTN is not here to serve as your own personal gallery.

Next time, post your best, and link to the rest.

It will help you develop as a photographer, and it helps us better appreciate your work.

The 8 image limit is there for a good reason.
I think many of us want to know what that reason is really. ???

Moppie just told you. POTN is not here as a substitute for your personal gallery. It's for photographers to help each other. If you have any issues with this, I suggest that you take them up with Pekka, who owns the forum.

Especially in the Wedding Forums, there are a lot of good photographers here who have personal galleries. If you are here as a regular then you will be familiar with the poster's work and if you want to see more, you can go to their blog or websites. I know some of the regulars only post 2-3 images and from that we can see it may be one we want to see the whole event. If you are new and need help with your work, 8 images gives us a clue to what help we can offer.

Let's see. Each thread page has typically 15 posts. Each post by separate member can have 8 images. So it's 120 per page, withing our rules.

It's a big readability issue.

It's a page load speed issue (120 times lets say 500KB each is 60MB of files to download PER PAGE). Think PDA's with Opera Mini. Even 2mbit ADSL is not that fast.

It's a "show only the best" and don't flood the forums issue.

It's a "don't use forums as your gallery" issue.

It's a "think about others", not "me me me" issue.

Obviously when you have hours of time at a big event there is a large variety of photos that you want to show... and the ones here are excellent. But for many posts on POTN the subject is not so interesting and 8 images is already enough. Many people don't have very good editing skills (and by editing there I mean culling those not worth seeing) so I think the rule serves a good purpose to enforce some sort of editing standard.

Anyway, good job and welcome to the forum.

Getting responses around here is hard enough as it is. After looking through 45 pictures I am no longer in the mood to offer my thoughts.

for the first 8 you posted... number 7 and the top left corner of 8 are great. 5 and 6... the sun killed you. find some shade or use fill
