View Full Version : Atlas EQ-G & dovetail question

I bought an Atlas EQ-G a few weeks ago along with a 6" refractor with the dovetail already installed. I want to put my 10" LX200 SCT OTA on the new mount but need a dovetail for it. Is there one that will fit the current stock saddle? I'm assuming I'll need radius blocks.
What's the recommendation for getting a wider saddle? I see Orion now makes one that accepts Losmandy dovetails which I think are about 3-4" wide for $25. The current one is only 1 1/2-2" wide.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

It can be a bit confusing, can't it?! Lots of different types and sizes of Dovetails. I recently got hold of a Dual Losmandy/Vixen Saddle Plate, which also takes the Celestron CGE type Dovetail, (which is on my C11). Expensive, but a nice piece of kit, and will also cater for my William Optics, which I think has a Vixen-sized Dovetail.

So does this mean it will hold both narrow and wide dovetail plates? (not a side by side setup right?) That might be something for me as my refractor has a narrow plate and I think the 10" will end up having a wide one.
Can you tell me the make/model of yours? Or a picture would be great.
Edit: I think I found it. http://www.admaccessories.com/D_Series_Dual_Saddles.htm
Looks like the best of both worlds so I'm going to order one.

You got it, but the place I ordered my Dual Saddle Plate had trouble getting them from the States...some sort of delay unfortunately. I ended up getting a Geoptik instead, which was more expensive, and matched my C11 nicely! ;) Plus I made sure I can mount my little WO ZS70 on it. Maybe one day I'll get a side-by-side setup, but my C11 has an ADM rail on the top for attaching a guide scope.
Here's where I got my Universal Saddle Plate.

The Geoptik stuff is very nice. I have the head and saddle on my EQ6Pro.

I just thought I'd take a look at mine before I ordered. It says the combo saddle attaches with 2 screws but I don't see how or where it could do that.
Here's my head. It looks like the bright silver collar is permanently attached to the saddle. Am I missing something here?

Now I do too, and it looks pretty good with the golden-orange Dovetail on my C11.
Jeff, I'm guessing some Saddles come as a Saddle/Puck combination that are "as is" and can't be separated. Since I didn't manage to get the ADM setup I can't tell if that is one-piece or two. My Geoptik is two pieces, as in the images in that link. They attach together with four screws.

Hmmmmm. I'll send this picture to ADM and see if they can confirm that the part will work for me.
