Sorry - Doesn't work for me. The net seems out of place with a runner. The running looks staged. The crop line at the top feels very painful.

I'm going to agree with SAB_Click, the running and dirt being kicked up looks fake.The level of underexposure and vignetting are a little to high for my tastes.
But I really like the Black and white-style of the photo, but the whole thing does follow a bit of a cliche.

No you're not. It's a lot better than most people with a camera could do. Take a good hard look at it and list five things that could be improved and then shoot it again, then you'll have a great picture - easy! ;)

I think seeing more of the runner's waist would be nice, and I would take out the motion blur by the feet. This is the kind of image I see on some of the stock photo sites (like istockphoto) but please don't take that as a negative. There is a market for this type of symbolic and processed shots. Not a failure at all!
