I am still a rookie but have shot a few sessions at a local motocross track,

i use setting such as this when i have been there but some of my pics come out blurry

using the 18-55 on my XS

Tv mode 1/125 - 1/320
auto ISO
continuous shooting
AI servo
evaluative metering
auto WB
center AF point

some of the pics are awesome but some are not so awesome

anyone have any suggestions?

i have been wondering about changing the metering mode?
what is AI focus?

thanks guys

evaluative metering

may be causing some of your blur problem. Try center point focusing and see if it helps. Evaluative focusing takes the whole scene into account and may focus on the foreground or background. You only want the rider and the bike to be in focus. If you track the rider and bike in the center of the frame, center point focus should keep the subject you want in focus.

just a thought

I have a similar post on here myself, so I don't really know anything either, but your shutter speed may be too slow. I've done a lot of browsing thru the MX photo posts, and it seems that 1/400th to 1/600th might give better results unless your shooting straight on from the side and do a good job of panning. I searched for "motocross" in the motorsports photo section, it was very helpful.
