I like to sit outside with my grand-daughters and feed the local birds. Here are two we recently attracted, a Blue Jay and a Mourning Dove. These were taken hand-held with a 75-300mm IS.

gorgeous birds and shots of them
I saw here where some don't like the blue jays
wonderful colours
do they do damage to other birds ?
we don't have them over here but we do have magpies
were there two doves around ?
this fellow looks especially nice
there are lovely shadows in the shots
and the grass looks beautiful and very lush

Very nice shots.. I like the patchy sunlight.
Marie,. although I like them just fine,. blue jays are real bullies and will tend to chase off anything else.

thanks very much Cyber
I wasn't thinking of anyone in particular (who may have said anything )as I don't remember. but I believe them
magpies rip the little birds apart here
(so I believe)
my sister saw a small bird split from one of their visits to her garden
when I hear squawking and see a magpie on the roof I know trouble is in store for some poor bird
they have very beautiful colours though
(maybe it's the same with people)
looks can be deceiving

I actually like the Blue Jays, Marie, and feel their reputation is somewhat overdone. They can be aggressive, but not like magpies or crows (from what I've seen). Their color is beautiful, as is that of magpies, and that's enough for me. Of course there were two mourning doves. They always stay with their mates, don't they? I wonder how they manage to produce so many offspring, as they are the worst nest builders. Anywhere they get three twigs to hang together is home. The eggs roll off, the crows attack, yet there are more doves than we can count. Must be they are very active after hours, eh?

I have some pictures of jays and doves I kinda liked, but they are nowhere near as good as these. Very nice work, Stan.
The blue jays at our feeder come and go and never injure the smaller birds. They do have a fearsome, piercing cry. They, like the titmouse, will get one sunflower seed, fly off to a branch, hold the shell between their feet and crack it open with a series of pecks.

we have a few cooing doves around
(well a few is three and they come in pairs so it must be that there are approx. four )
I thought the birds went to bed early:confused:
(that confirms it)

As usual, very nice work. Great shots. Hope you get some good bird opportunities in Colorado.
