Hello all.

I just purchased an S30 and am, so far, very please with it. I've got a lot to learn about digital photography but the out-of-the-box point and shoot pictures I took the day I bought it printed better than I thought possible with a digital camera!

Does anyone have any experience with taking very close-up pictures of VERY small items? My son and I paint and collect tiny (25mm tall) fantasy miniature figurines and would like to photograph them as well. Here's an example of what I'm talking about, along with a person's thumb for comparison:

I tried to take a few shots last night using a tripod and got mixed results. By placing the figure about 3 feet from the camera, and zooming in fully, I could get a clear picture. However, I tried it by using macro mode and putting the camera just a few inches from the mini and could not get it to focus.

I read the manual and it doesn't give much information about taking extreme close-ups. Any advice?

I do not know much about this camera, I have v3, but it should clearly say in a manual exact distance from camera to object possible in marco mode, and if you using zoom this distance became bigger (should be, as it does in v3). Check again manual, should be something about it for sure.

out of the box, the s30 s**cks at macro work.

You would need to get a lens adapter, as well as closeup or a monocular lens. I haven“t tried any of those combos yet, sorry.

A good combination is the ck adpter with the tiffen 7x and 10 x macro lens. This is a great como because you can use both lens seperately or together for 3 different magnifications. You can order the lens from bug eyed digital on the web. Otherwise you will never be able to focus really close with the S30.
