These are nice and I know the parents will love them. I will critique them since you requested and I love shooting newborns.
1. I personally do not like big head ornaments but I know some parents of girls like them to differentiate them from the boys. In this shot, like most shots with head ornaments, it takes over the frame. If mom insists on it, fine, but do some without the ornament as well. My second issue here is with the wide angle lens. I don't have an EXIF viewer right now but it feels too wide for the subject and is exaggerating the perspective.
2. Nice one but I would prefer the focus on the baby. Good either way, though.
3. I would crop out some on the right and bottom. The pink of the bathing chair is too much and also overtaking it. The frame is a bit too saturated and 1/2 stop underexposed.
4. Love it. The expression (of anything) is tough to get on a newborn. It is missing a bit of sharpness; I can't tell where the focal plane is so maybe it was slight motion blur or too much of a crop.
5. I never liked the toes shot but this is well done.
6. Different... not sure I love it. The chair or whatever the baby is in looks a bit awkward or put together for the shot. Cute moment though as not many newborns will do that.
7. Very nice but too much glamour shot effect. The lighting is a bit flat to start but the conversion is also flat and muddied.

Yup; back up if you can and stay on the longer range of the zoom.

The light is flat; meaning there isn't a lot of dynamic range. The bright parts of the face aren't that bright and the shadows are very gradual. The midtones are all a bit muddy, meaning just grayish and lacking definition or gradation. It would be a stronger photo with a bit more light. It could probably be done just with post processing by playing with the levels and curves to make the bright parts of the face brighter. You might mask out the bow so it doesn't blow out too white.
Anyway, this one and the smiling close up are nice and the best of the bunch.

Sure, click the link in my signature, then Galleries and then Family & Kids.
Also here are the threads I've started here with lots of pics: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/search.php?do=finduser&u=134227&starteronly=1
For the (IMO) the best baby photographer on the forum, search for "Cheetapita" in the Kids area.

Thanks a lot! All I have to go by is what you've posted here but you have a very good start if you're new to photography. Your composition is good and there is a lot of variety in your shots.
To take it to the next level you need to work on your post processing skills... it is different for infants than it is for adults, too. Things need to be softer but not glowing. Also, you sometimes need to arrange reality if it isn't perfect for your shot. These aren't photojournalistic or documentary shots... so there are slight imperfections in the arrangements or distractions in the background that keep these from being perfect.
Like in #1 that bottom left corner of what she was on is folded over... or #2, the orange bedding or whatever behind dad... Most of the time you don't need to even arrange anything, just adjust your angle 5 degrees one way or another and you can eliminate the annoyances in the backgrounds. #3 might work better lightened up a bit and in black and white so the pink seat doesn't draw so much focus, etc.

Looking at these again, they are good as a set, especially since they weren't setups.
