Hailey's mom is a friend of mine/my husbands, and Hailey is 6 weeks old. I've been trying to photograph her...for 6 weeks. Wasnt sure what to expect - and baby made it difficult (im sure they all do, lol)... She wouldnt lay on her back more than 10 seconds and wouldnt get in a deep enough sleep to pose her like i wanted. I dont have any props for babies yet, and mom brought 2 pink blankets and that's pretty much all we had, no headbands, no extra clothes, nothing. Light was bounced flash, with just bit of window light across the room. Before my next shoot in about 2 months i plan to get some round baskets and my own blankets. How'd i do for my 1st one?

I also love the first one, what a lil doll! The only thing I see (it may just be my old monitor) is that she looks a little cool or bluish especially in the last one.

you really don't need props for babies- just patience. Blankets and a naked baby always equal an adorable picture.. ok you may get some "tinkle" with the nakedness :)

I really like #5 & #6, I think you got the lighting down best in those 2. On the other ones the lighting is pretty harsh - how were you using your flash? Bounced off what? They all seem a little underexposed, except #3, but the light on that one is pretty harsh. I agree they all need better pp too. Newborns are very hard - a lot of work, but keep practicing! I am totally prop crazy, but really all I would suggest buying to start out is a noise maker that has a heartbeat, a white or off-white throw, and a scarf or two - you can go a very long way with just those few things! That's how I started :) HTH

Thanks! i love how the 1st came out also. on the last one - it's the processing. didnt want to post all b&ws and i tried something different on that one. i posted on another forum and they didnt really like it either - but yet mom's best friend posted on her myspace that it was her fave out of 36 of em. so i guess it's a taste you have or dont, but i did do that one normal as well.

Thank you! im a fan of yours on facebook and love your work, so thanks for commenting! Flash was just bounced off the ceiling. but at one point i opened the blinds more, and that might have been what happened on the harsher lighting. underexposure noted. i usually try them much brighter (it's been too bright sometimes) and held back this time. havent found a happy medium yet. so i will do what you said and just keep practicing! and a scarf? i hadnt thought about. thanks!
