Get a macro.

Your asking me? Lol I am not game enough to answer that (due to someone else very rudely commenting on something I said in another thread that truely offended me! And yes I withdrew it) So I am a little wary now on saying much in my posts.

In my honest opinion, it is an excellent photo. I do agree with getting a Macro lens.

I like it a lot. It's a pleasing composition with lots of different texture in the background, but not so much it overpowers. A macro would great, I want one myself, but you can "run what you brung," and try a little fill with the onboard flash. It may even out the tone on the petals. Maybe focus a little closer to you to get the bottom flowers totalyy in the DOF. That may also entail a smaller aperture. All in all though, nice pic with awesome color.

Thanks everyone, I was following my daughter up and down on the street on her bike snapping away when I noticed the neighbors flowers. Shot a few of the flowers, my daughter and a robbin that landed close by, this seemed to be the best one. I really am impressed with my new 70-200f/4, with some practiss I hope to get some nice shots that I could even frame...
Thanks again for all the help and comments

Congrats on obtaining that lens! I've been lusting for it, can afford it, but will wait until I can afford the 2.8 version. For the time being, I've made do with my tamron. And for the record, you can frame this one.

I think its a lovely shot, no improvement necessary!
The others are right, a macro lens opens up a whole new world of opportunity, but it doesn't detract from what you've got there.
Thanks for sharing :)

Are the shadows on this picture a bad thing?
Is this something you can avoid?

To me, not really. Using the fill flash would just be a different way to portray the same scene. If you find an irritating shadow, you can also use a reflector. I've used white poster board for this in many flower shots. Try it out.
