I got the 70-200 f2.8L IS recently and I've run it through a series of tests. First impressions is awesome, but what about the EF 85 f/1.8?

Sure it got the extra aperture for low-light, but the 70-200 has the IS...

Due to the 1.3X I "miss" a perfect portrait-lens within 80-100 mm range, the large aperture is close to no problem due to IS/high ISO capabilites on the 1D mk II...
I've had the EF 50 f/1.4 on EOS 10D earlier so I feel like there's something missing in my lens-lineup?!

How's the 85 f/1.8 compared to the 70-200 IS concerning sharpness, contrast and color? Any comments or could I rest assured that the EF 85 are no match to the 70-200?

It does have IS but IS wont help with motion blur on moving objects in low light.

I'd rather have a faster lens then IS any day fo the week. But then i'd not compare the two lenses as the range is so different apart from the wide end, which is only where the two can be compared

I'd pitch the 85 against the 50 1.4 and the 70 200 IS against the 135L myself

I have both and love them. Read through some of the sports posts during basketball season, and you will see how much this lens is appreciated. I think the 85 will perform better in a dark gym than the zoom, and the sharpness is awesome.

But I'm pretty new at this, so see what others think.
