need lighting tips

Hi, i'm gonna make a home studio, i just finish the
backdrop stand i will upload some pics this week,
now i need some help on what kind of lights do i need
for now because of low budget i'm gonna use some
cheap lights maybe a DIY project, what kind of lights do
do you recommend, how many watts do i need in each
light, do i use only umbrellas or do i need softbox.

By DIY I'm guessing you are planning on using a continuous light source rather than a flash?

I suggest trying ebay for some good used a/c powered studio lights rather than wasting your money on "garage lights" or d/c powered speedlights.
