Is there an advantage between using the hotshoe adapter vs. a direct cable to trigger the strobes?
I am talking about a 580 EX.
For example, using this:

instead of this:

Thanks for your input.

No, the cable-to-shoe adapter is just for those flashes lacking a PC jack. Like the 430EX for example. If you have a cable jack, I would use it.
Although, note that the cable you linked to has a NIkon specific end on it.

Actually, the "Nikon Screwlock" does indeed fit the PC terminal of Canon cameras (that have PC terminals). Canon notes that theirs is a screw terminal, but avoid using the "N-word" to describe it.
It's the same screw fitting, however, and it's the best way to attach a flash to the PC terminal, because it doesn't depend on a tight friction fit. Many people have broken the terminal in the camera trying to get a tight-enough friction fit.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking too regarding breaking the terminal and how the triggering would depend on the tight friction.
Thanks for the input

I honestly can't figure out what you are trying to fire. Is it the 580EX, Elinchrom strobes, or radio units?

I am trying to fire a 580 EX II using the Elinchrom Skyports. Sorry for not being a bit confusing :)
