Newbie looking for some info....

Hi, all! I'm picking up a 300D tomorrow, and am looking at the Sigma 28-135/3.5 Macro as a GP lens. Has anybody here used that lens/have an opinion? Don't want to put a lot of dough into "better" glass, until I know just how I'll want to use it most.
