View Full Version : Different kind of G10 v G11 question....

my few month old G10 had some problems. so i returned it due to a dead pixel on the LCD and a strange white vertical line in images taken at higher ISO's. Adorama gave me a runaround last week when i spoke with them, but we've seemingly gotten to the bottom of things. i am now left with a decision:

1. have canon fix my defective G10. i should have it back in another 2-3 weeks (meaning they've had my camera for nearly 6 weeks. ridiculous and unacceptable IMO)

or

2. wait for another few weeks and pay the difference for a G11 (so probably $50 or so).

i really liked the G10, but prefer the idea of having better ISO capabilities (not to mention the latest technology) of the G11. although, stepping down from the fantastic 3" screen the G10 has to a smaller (2.8") screen on the G11 is a big downer. the articulating display isn't too big of a deal to me although it would be nice for traveling so the display doesn't get scratched. i doubt the viewfinder will be any better than previous versions making it impossible to use.

I would probably wait for the G11; the only real reason being that it seems to have much better high ISO performance..

I'd go with the G11 simply because taking apart and putting back together the G10 may cause other issues. G11 would be brand new out of the box.

Go for the G11. Personally I don't think 0.2" will make much difference to you once you're using it. If you did a side-by-side comparison, then sure, it will be noticeable.

If you have time before you must give Adorama your decision, go to the Canon site, download the G11 owner manual, and go through it. If you like what you see, then your decision is easy. If not, then your decision became tougher.

Good luck!

thanks for the suggestions all. Adorama seemed to be nothing but trouble and didn't appear to want to retain my business so I asked for a refund. I purchased a new G11 from Beach camera and it shipped out earlier today. in the end i went with low light performance in hopes the G11 will be a significant enough improvement over the G10. like you said mathogre, that extra .2" shouldn't make too big of a difference.

I did, however, get to play with an S90 at Best Buy yesterday and I gotta say, I almost bought one! The camera is compact, jammed with features, and i love the custom-setting ring around the lens!

Hype - performance is the same.
