Took this at Chick-fil-a while waiting on a buddy for lunch today. Only shot I was able to snap before it flew off.....

Good / Bad, always looking to improve my skills so let's hear it.

I am a complete nQQb with photography, but love it none the less

"Never turn your back on an audience!"

Your focus is on the flower buds with only a short DOF an out of focus/slightly blown out flower isn't going to do much foor the viewer and the bee is too small and dark to be of much interest.

Apologies if this sounds harsh its not meant to be, only truthful - the colours give it a nice warm feel.

David

Looks like the yellow highlights need to be toned down a bit, and maybe the shadows of the insect lightened some.

I like the shot and can appreciate shooting something in the back, so to speak. Nature doesn't always cooperate when modelling for us. Patience is the key here. Some wildlife pros will sit for 3 days to get a single shot!

Hybrid93Hatch, as it stands, it's a flower shot with an annoying intruder. As a bee shot it needs to be cropped much more. Out of focus bee and even further limited resolution probably won't make this worhwhile doing. Try and use manual focus on the insects eyes the next time, to avoid the autofocus snapping onto the surrounding flower.

David, how about my bumble bee and flower? It's the full image (not cropped) taken with my 20D and 100mm macro lens on manual focus while being bored waiting for a bus. This one had aspirations to become a model, as it kept buzzing around the flowers for at least 30 minutes.
