I am in need of some advice. I have a 350xt with a 580EX and have been offered a position with a local real estate company to shoot homes they feature on a local cable station that previews there properties. The kit lens is out of the questions for interiors. I am seriously considering the Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle SP 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens for the job. I have read a few reviews on the lens and all were relatively favorable, however I regard the advice given here as top notch and more real world. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance !

John

I am shopping and doing research on ultra wide zooms too. Be sure to look at the Tokina 12-24 (One I am leaning towards) the Sigma 12-24, and of course the overpriced Canon 10-22. For some reason I ruled the Tamron out but can't remember why. Hope this helps. :D

First of all, the real estate photos I've seen are nothing special and were probably taken with a mid-range focal length. I don't know why you rule out the kit lens, as I've taken some very nice interior shots with it. Now that I have the 10-22 mm lens, it is better for getting the entire room. So, if you just have to have a new lens, I'd recommend the 10-22.

This is a post I did a couple of days ago:

I took a photo inside a coffee shop and a couple of photos of the outside of a building using a Tokina 12-24 f4. I was choosing between the Tokina & Sigma, the Tokina won out because of it's cost. I considered the Tamron, but I wanted a lens that had a constant f stop for the entire zoom range. I can't use any EF-S lenses (they don't fit on a 10D), so I have no experience with them. Here are a couple of more photos...

Thanks for the advice.

I will need a lens for full room shots, and when you factor in the 1.6x for the rebel the tamron will start at 17mm. I think this should get most of a tight interior room.

No prob... post some photos when you get some. I'm interested in seeing how that lens performs.

I'd go with the 10-22 with no regrets, Its great for romm pictures and being a superwide has a lot of other uses :D

With a 1.6x crop factor camera, I don't think you'll be saticfied by anything less than a 10-22. It's more expensive than some other options, but depending on how much this job will be earning you, I think it'd be more than worth it.
