I own a 5D mk2 and recently invested in some gemini 750 pro heads and in the manual it says theyr capable of 1/2900 does that mean thats the light duration?? and using this at a high f point will give me a crisper image and reduce ambient light.... and the shutter speed is 1/200 on my 5D mk2 so i asume thats the max shutter speed?
Correct?? apologies if this is a stupid question i have alot to learn....

1/2900 is the flash duration. 1/200th is the max sync speed u could use shutter speed that are faster but you will see your shutter curtain if you do.

As long as ambient isn't significant compared with the studio light output your shutter speed doesn't matter much. 1/30th and 1/200th will look much the same. The shutter only controls ambient light, and a fast shutter might be handy if there's a beam of sunlight you'd like to cut out.
You might not even get 1/200th, I think the camera spec says 1/125th for studio lights. Either way though, it doesn't much matter.

I tried to use 1/200 and had the dreaded black curtain line along the right side of the shot, so now dont go past 1/160.
BTW i use the Bowens 200 kit.
