HELP! my s410 camera is not recognizing that i am switching between modes at all - seems to be stuck in auto mode even as i switch the mode dial... can this be repaired or am i off to buy a new camera

How old is the camera? Try resetting the settings and changing batteries

the camera is a year old. what do you mean by resetting? I tried reformatting the card and I have replaced & recharged the batteries...
