I've recently started a website to display my photos and to share my travels and experiences with people. I would love to hear some C&C and leaving comments directly on my site are welcome as well!
So far, I've run into only a few problems. My entry page has two links on it, 1.Blog, 2.Portfolio. When I tell people I've posted new pictures, they automatically think portfolio, even though it's in the blog. So I've decided to redo the entry page when I get the time and remove the two links and only put and Enter button that will take you to my main site. From there, I will include a link to my portfolio extension.
Another thing I'm a bit frustrated with is the best way to display my photos. Once you go to my site, you will see that I have a java overlay that brings my photos up on top of the page you're currently viewing. Clicking on the left/right part of the photo will return/advance to the next one. While this is a convenient feature, it is also a setback for me at the same time because it does not allow for individual comments to be left on the photos. I have not come up with/found a solution for this yet. However, I would love to hear some suggestions. Another thing is once I start photographing people, I would need a place to post the photos for private viewing and be able to give only them access to it.
So anything about my website and photography is more than welcome. Here's how I'm currently setup:
Host: Hostmonster.com
Blog: Wordpress template
Portfolio: Pixelpost template
Backup for displaying photos: Flickr: Slipmatt53
Any and every comment is welcome, so long as it is constructive. I know it's rather amateurish, so if you have a lot of suggestions/tips, I understand. I'm really looking to polish up my site and eventually get a small side business going for a little photography. Thanks and enjoy!
