Yesterday, I was using my 20D in AV mode, and trying to take some continuous shots in Alservo mode, and two times, it quit. I remembered reading something on this, so I just shut it off, and took out the battery, started to take out the memory card, turned it back on and it worked.

Just wondering what some thoughts were on this incident.

Thanks, rw

That's happened me a couple of times too, are you using the Battery grip - it could be that, apparently there is a fault in it and there is a thread on here somewhere about what Canon are doing about it .. or not. If you are not using the grip, so I can't help.

I do not have at present, the grip, but have been thinking about getting one.

Hi BlueTit, I went to your web site and checked out the birds (38), I liked the different ducks, the one looked like it had a Canada Goose head with the colors opposite. rw

Are you on the latest firmware? Should be 2.0.0 If not get it here

I thought this upgrade was only to add wireless capability with appropriate hardware. Has Canon added something else as well to prevent lock ups?

I don't know what level he is at and this is what you get if you need to upgrade. The last upgrade was for wireless but if he is at earlier lever that caused a lock up he may need a upgrade. This upgrade includes all previous upgrades.

I'm confused. I'm at an earlier service release and I understood by reading other threads that one had to upgrade in order of service release and that just upgrading to 2.0 did NOT include prior releases, ( which seems unusual to me.)

Well if you go to the link there is only (!) 20d firmware update. Wouldn't you assume thats the lattest and greatest including all perevious updates? I would. I don't even remember what the previous one was numbered. I do updates as soon as they come out but quite a lot folks wait until tested a while. This release should put you at the latest level. If you are having lockups I strongly suggest getting it. Follow the instructions exactly and you will have no problems with it.

If you already have firmware 1.1.0 then you have the last upgrade before 2.0.0 and upgrading to 2.0.0 will not help with your problem.

Here (http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/eos20d/eos20d_firmware-e.html) is a link to Version 2.0.0 firmware if you do want to upgrade.

Thank you to all, I am on 1.1.0 firmware, I have the 2.0.0 download, but after reading about it, I did not think I needed to be in a hurry to upload it. Yesterday, I did some shots in the evening in TV, and did not have any problems. rw
Here are some of the shots:

I've had the same thing happen with my 20D, but it is usually after I have filled the buffer with a series of candid flash shots in auto.

I wondered if it was the camera taking time to empty the buffer because after I let it "rest" a bit, it is okay.

I don't have a card reader. Can I download the firmware update connecting the camera to the PC in the way that I do when I download the photos? Please forgive me if that is the most naive question you've heard. :o

All To Note
My 20d locked up -I use only canon products, do not use any grip. downloaded the latest firmware, and still it had to be returned under warranty for a replcement part. The camera was less than 3 months old with little use. I was not informed which part even when I asked . This is a problem for canon- read all the sites on this problem for proof. It does not seem to matter if you use a grip or sigma lense or whatever its a fault with canon.
