I wish I understood Cricket more, I guess if I had a chance to watch it I would.
Where I go for baseball batting practice (love the portable pitching machine!) there are a couple of guys that use the court I use for cricket practice... they always look exhausted after a few pitches.
Oh, and the shots, I like em :D

I don't understand that game at all. Seems like the most pointless sport ever.

you get some of the most unflattering pictures of people! It is a good thing you redeem yourself with the quality of the rest of your work or you would be chased off. Cheers.

Honestly any sport taken down to its basics is the most pointless human venture ever. But we all love to play and watch our favourites...
I am glad my elementary teacher taught me the rules and how to play cricket. It is really fun!
Now the photos. They are excellent. What was your AV setting?
Cheers?

I reckon one of the best aspects about 5 day cricket matches is not even the physical side of the game (which can be pretty impressive since it is often played in 110oF temperatures). I really enjoy the tactics, leadership, persistence and team work - critical decisions made in the first hour of day one mean the difference between winning and losing 5 days later. Few sports give you that. Too many people today have a 4 second attention span and full on me-now attitude. 5 day cricket teaches the opposite to this since a me-now attitude just means you lose quickly.
Oh yeah, and great shots BTW.

Cheers Raj!
It's certainly the national sport in many countries... for example in India where the population is in excess of 1 billion! Try telling those guys that it's pointless!
Also, I love photographing it. It's a great challenge - particularly to get the fabled 'bails flying' shot.... like this one from last Saturday....

Cricket also has many similarities to baseball...
1. Pitcher/bowler pitches/bowls ball at batsman/batter
2. One team tries to score more runs/points than the other team
3. If the ball gets the base/crease faster than the batsman, you're out
4. If someone catches a (hit) ball before it bounces, you're out
5. Games consist of several 'innings'
6. Games take place over several hours/days (test matches/world series)
7. The pitcher/bowler using different pitching/bowling techniques to try to deceive the batsman/batter
8. Both sports are played on large expanse of grass
9. Etc... etc.... etc...

Great photographs, really sharp and some great expressions. I am not a cricket fan, but I enjoyed those.

Nice - the "bails off" shot is a great pic.
Reminds me of my playing days.

One of these days I'll actually figure out how cricket works. It looks very neat, but is also very foreign to most Americans. (Like me.)
