Attaching large/heavy modifiers to D-lites?

If this has been posted before then i apologize but i could not find anything of relevance.

I have understood that attaching a large or heavy modifier to the D-lites are not the smartest thing in the world since the handle can break.

Now, the questions i have are these,
What is the workaround for this? pictures and a explanation would be appreciated :)

Is it worth getting the D-lite kit if i want to add larger modifiers in the future, assuming that the above workaround will render the included stands useless?

As long as you're using non-Elinchrom modifiers then you can use the Photoflex speed ring ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/214757-REG/Photoflex_SC_B9014ELR_Speed_Ring_for_Elinchrom_.ht ml ) which has 1/4"-20 and 3/8" tapped mounting holes. By using the mounting holes you attach the speed ring to the light stand or boom instead of the strobes' swivel mount. This shifts the weight from the swivel mount to the speed ring.

This works well but by using the speed ring you can't rotate the modifier from the ring. It must be done via a boom arm that can rotate. Obviously this only applies to a square or rectangular softbox. If you're using an octa it doesn't matter.

Other then the swivel mount I've only heard of one instance of the actual accessory mount failing and that was more than likely just an isolated incident.

I've posted pictures of the Photoflex ring in use as I described but I don't have the link off hand. If you really want to see what this looks like I can either find the image or shoot another.

Just forget about the D-lites. The BXRis are barely more expensive when you factor in the built-in radio triggers, and they are better in every respect including the handle and the mount.

If the D-lites are at the absolute limit of your budget then get another brand. It will be less hassle in the long run. The lights are just there to power your modifiers and for a light to put big restrictions on what modifiers you can use isn't good enough.

The Bxri´s are just shy of twice the price in sweden, there are a few modifiers that can be had for the difference in price, and as i have figured it the real problem with the D-lites are purely physical and not the output of the flash itself.

works fine. elinchrom mount seems very simple and reliable, even in plastic dlites

That's correct. Quality of light and performance is outstanding on the D-Lite's.

btw, i dont remember any limitations for using dlites with elinchroms modifiers. has anyone manual by hand? would they replace my dlite if its damaged by using large elinchrom modifier?
