Can't figure out why my polarizer is not making my sky bluer. It is turning out very grey actually. I am standing at a 90 degree angle from sun. I did take a picture with the sun directly behind me and the sky got a lot bluer. Any tips would be great thanks

It is hard to tell with those small images. Check the WB setting, parameters, and adjust the polorizer are a few that come to mind. White balkance was the first, though.

Not that it helps, but I've been having exactly the same trouble. I took the photos just as the sun was setting and aimed the camera 90o to the sun. I had little to no sucess, and as you stated, the best results were 180o to the sun.

jfranco - thanks for the suggestion, but the wb certainly wasn't a problem with my photos as I could see the same through the viewfinder.

In fact I'm more sure of it in your case, since you indicated that you were getting exactly what you saw in the viewfinder. That would suggest that you've set up the shot properly and are getting what your eye sees.

Are you aware that you need to rotate the polariser to optimise the effect ? Just checking.

Yes I am aware of having to rotate. thank you, it wasn't helping

hmmmmm I have wb set to auto, should I have on something else? That depends. Sometimes I set mine at auto, sometimes I set for a specific result. It really depends on how much control you want to take. I suggest reading up on it in the manual, and then take several versions of the same shot with different WB, so you'll know the expected results.

It may also depend on your metering. The shot may meter to blow out the background in order to get the subject exposed correctly, therefore leaving the sky very light.
